Where is the water coming from?
Leaking From the Front (Front-Load Washer)
Water at the front of a front-load machine during or after the wash cycle is almost always the door gasket. The rubber boot seal collects lint, mold, and residue. Over time it tears, especially along the bottom fold where water pools. Check it yourself: open the door and run your finger around the gasket. Look for black mold staining, cracks, or visible tears.
Leaking From the Back
A leak at the back points to the water inlet valve or hose connections. Standard rubber supply hoses should be replaced every three to five years. A burst hose releases five to ten gallons per minute, a laundry room floods in minutes.
Leaking From the Bottom
A leak directly under the machine during the drain cycle means the pump or its housing has cracked. The drain hose connection to the pump can also loosen over time and drip at that joint.
Leaking During the Fill Cycle Only
The machine fills, you see a drip, then it stops. This is the inlet valve or the fill hose.
Leaking From the Detergent Drawer
Using too much detergent or the wrong type causes foam to overflow through the drawer. High-efficiency machines require HE detergent. This is the one leak you can fix without a technician: switch to HE detergent, run a cleaning cycle, and it stops.
